While the Gods Sleep Audiobook Release!π₯³In an alternate 1950βs Greece, locksmith Ty is drawn into the dangerous games of the gods. Deeply in debt, he is forced to descend into an underworld filled with squabbling deities and monsters in search of the key to his own freedom. When I say I'm an avid audiobook reader, it barely scratches the surface. I have a few hundred audiobooks in my library spanning various audiobook companies, and if I can't find a book in audio, I'll get it in ebook and read it in text-to-speech before I'll read print. I joined Audible in 2009. Not quite from the start -- apparently they began in 1995 (who knew?) -- but still, early days, back when you had to download a large file to your computer (no easy task back then) and laboriously transfer it to blank CDs. One glitch in the transfer and you had to start over from scratch. Fun times when downloading something huge like Game of Thrones (ask me how I know...). All that to say, WOW am I excited about the full Perilous Gods set releasing in audio!! The narrator, Jonathon Todd Ross, is a fabulous voice actor with over 400 audiobooks to his credit as well as anime voice-over and film acting experience. The five-minute audiobook sample covers the non-fiction foreword of the book exactly, start to finish, so you don't hear the beginning of the actual book but you do get the full thoughtful and insightful intro by my friend, Natalia Theodoridou, author of last year's acclaimed debut fantasy novel, Sour Cherry. While the Gods Sleep is available today across multiple audiobook outlets including Audible (direct or through Amazon) Libro, and Chirpbooks (seriously, check out Chirpbooks -- no membership needed and lots of deals!), and through library audiobook providers like Hoopla and Libby/OverDrive. (If your library doesn't carry The Perilous Gods set, PLEASE, PLEASE REQUEST THEM...) ***Zero AI -- from plotting to writing to cover art to audiobook narration, you'll find no AI in The Perilous Gods books***In other news: book two, When the Winds Sing has made the SFWA Recommended Reading List! It's out now in ebook and paperback, and will release in audio one month from today. Book three, Where the Shadows Dwell, is scheduled to release in print and ebook on February 18th and in audio May 12th. More outlets will be adding to the link as the release gets closer, and early reviews and blurbs are just beginning to come in. The book release is going to be at Bookstravaganza, a 30-author, in-person book sale. I'll be there signing copies alongside Jim Butcher, Jonathan Maberry, Kevin J. Anderson, Robert J. Sawyer and more. If you're near Colorado Springs, the event will be held tomorrow(!) Feb 4, 2026 7-9 pm at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in the ballroom. Want a sneak peek at the first chapter? It's in a BookFunnel promo of 160 SFF author giveaway. Everything from previews, like mine, to short stories to novels, all free. Speculations: a newsletter from award-winning speculative fiction author, L. D. Colter. Musings on writing, reading, and various piffle, but always a cute animal video.
Lot o' reading: On top of a set of book deadlines for my editors that ran from the start of the year until the end of Feb (or so I thought until they rolled into the first two weeks of March...) I've been reading furiously for the awards season coming up. As a SFWA member, I'm nominating and voting for the Nebulas, plus the Locus awards and maybe some others if it looks like I might be able to attend WorldCon or World Fantasy, or other events later this year. Oh, and in an unrelated but...
An occasional newsletter from a writer of weird things...Musings on writing, reading, and various piffle, but always a cute animal video. Musings, Book 3 Release Giveaway, SFF Freebies, and Pimpa the Prairie Dog Musings: Many authors and creators this year have posted about the disparity of important and worrying things happening all around the globe while they promote and celebrate achievements in their own little sphere. Well, I'm feeling it too -- especially being in the unusual position...
Speculations for January 2026: A new release date, audiobooks nearly here, and baby polar bears... Well, not unlike last year, 2026 is off to a surreal start. Some people doing awful things but also amazing people doing wonderful things. Alignment all the way from Lawful Good to Chaotic Evil on full display. My twin sources of refuge, lifelong, have been speculative fiction and nature. Besides reading and hanging out with fellow writers, I walk everyday in the country where the wind blows in...
